For the little one... (and me too)

Pebble vest in (l-r) Berroco Ultra Alpaca; an unknown tweed-y purple (the first yarn I ever purchased); and Berroco Vintage.

All of these were finally photographed today, and I'm happy to share some of the things I've knit for our new little one.

Kanoko Pants in Lamb's Pride - Heirloom Blue.

I'm not exactly sure what happened over the past few months. I know being pregnant was a definite motivator and pointed me in the direction of a particular genre of knit patterns. And I guess I just see a lot of great things out here in the ether that get my knitting mojo all revved up.

Aviatrix hats for me (Cascade 220) and baby (Berroco Ultra Alpaca). Still need their buttons.

Never, until now, was I really able to follow a knitting pattern. Well, something clicked and I feel pretty confident that I could at least consider knitting most anything I'd like. That's not to say I haven't been completely baffled at times, but most of the problems have been tackled with the help of my copy of Vogue Knitting.

WHW Plain Wrap in Cascade 220 (straw) and Lamb's Pride (sage). Still need to finish sewing on the Aplix (a less aggressive kind of Velcro.) I need to see how this little guy grows and what his reaction to wool is before I make too many more of these. I love the idea, but don't know if the wrap style will work the best. Keep you posted!

I will also add that knitting seems to be something that I can do (and still feel productive and creative) while also remaining engaged with Calder. Sure, there's been plenty of late nights just me, the yarn, and some needles, but during the daytime it's been great to find that he doesn't feel an absence when I'm sitting near him knitting like he does when I paint or do ceramics or - worst of all - plunk myself in front of the computer.

Curly Purly Soaker knit by my wonderful Aunt Winnie at my request. So nice! She did say the instructions were a little too vague for her comfort at times.

Also, I decided to really investigate Ravelry. And it's a great place. There's a lot of generosity and ideas out there. I've only used free patterns so far and haven't done any of the "networking", but it's loaded with information and sets my wheels spinning. All the patterns I've knit up here were found on Ravelry.

I forgot to photograph the Baby Watchcap, but that's done too.. in Berroco Alpaca, same as the littlest brick red vest.

W.I.P. yet another Pebble vest in Berroco Vintage.

If you have any questions about any of these pieces just post a comment or send me an email. I don't feel up for recounting all the details (yarn/needles/etc.) right now, but I for sure didn't attempt any serious deviations from the patterns. I have found that it's a good idea to work up a gauge swatch - something I never used to do - and maybe modify the needle size or yarn to get the pattern to come out right. That's how I ended up with 3 different sized vests without adding stitches or modifying the pattern itself in any way.

Oh, and those super cute clothes pins were a gift from my mother-in-law. They're called "Sparrow Clips" and you can get them here among other places.
