Now it is Summer

Pretty much every morning when Calder wakes up he says, "It's summer!" Now, I know he means, "It's sunny!" but when he woke up and made his proclamation on Sunday he was finally right.

We awoke to the start of summer in overcast Beaverton, but the longest day of the year was rung in with true sunny, celebratory fashion at our neighborhood solstice party back home Sunday evening in Corvallis.

This was our first year attending, but the gathering has been taking place for 14 years. We'll make every effort to attend from now on.

There were probably 150-200 people in a beautiful backyard complete with a fabulous potluck meal, walnut tree with a treehouse and 3 swings, fire ring and s'more-making, and all sorts of talents on the stage.

I wish I had more pictures of the food and the yard, but really these three guys (the mandolin player is the son of the host) playing here under the twinkle lights on a long solstice night, pretty much sums up how great the evening was and how great this town is. Couldn't have been better.
