SUNDAY WITH ROCK

Our awesome friend Raquel invited us to meet her up at the vineyard where she'll be cooking and wine-making for the next couple of months. Lemelson Vineyard is just outside of Carleton. It's a quiet place right now. Tours and tastings are by appointment only. But in a couple weeks the crew will be on hand to make the wine from this year's harvest, and that's why Rocky was hired.

She toured us through the lab (cool!) the "caves" with oak barrels stacked high, and the tank rooms where the wine-making happens.

We snagged a couple bottles for lunch - possibly from the cases headed to the library. (Oops, but oh well.)

She'll be living in an old brown house near the winery with a few of her co-workers.

We snacked on Pan Marino with salami and Humbolt Fog, crepes with loads of fillings: homemade applesauce, apricot and strawberry jams, chocolate hazelnut spread, goat cheese, and cointreau, and bunches of grapes from the vine on the house's porch.

Rocky's great at finding really interesting things to do with her life. After the stint at the vineyard she'll, quite possibly, move on to a gelato apprenticeship in San Francisco. And then what???

Man, so cool. I spend as much time with her as I can.
