TO THE BEACH

Last Friday we took advantage of Jeff getting off work early to take a trip to Newport. It was a beautiful day, very sunny and warm even on the coast. But what we didn't anticipate was the wind. Wow! It was harsh out there on the exposed stretch of Nye Beach. But we braved it to get Calder's toes in the ocean for the first time. (Though he's been on the beach before this was his first time in the water.)

Jeff, his mom, sister, and Calder brave the sandblaster and take in the marine influence.

The woman at Panini a great little bakery/cafe in Nye Beach suggested we head to the beach at Otter Rock north of town as it would be sheltered from the north wind. We took her advice and some tasty americanos and pastries.

And it was perfect! Just what we were looking for to turn our day around. The beach was protected from the wind so you could actually feel warm on the Oregon coast. The cliffs offered a dramatic backdrop to the family atmosphere on the sand.

We settled down in a spot and made sandcastles while a man nearby played guitar.

Styled with sunscreen.
